Alerus Announces Completion of Alliance Benefit Group North Central States, Inc. Acquisition 
Alerus Financial, N.A. (“Alerus”) (OTCQX: ALRS), announced today that on January 1, 2016, it completed its previously announced acquisition of Alliance Benefit Group North Central States, Inc. (“ABGNCS”). ABGNCS provides recordkeeping and administration for 900 retirement plans, 75,000 participants, and $6 billion in plan assets. The acquisition increases Alerus’ retirement assets under administration to $23 billion, while serving 6,000 plans and 350,000 participants.

Alerus Announces Acquisition of Alliance Benefit Group North Central States, Inc. 
Alerus Financial, N.A. (“Alerus”) (OTCQX: ALRS), announced yesterday that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Alliance Benefit Group North Central States, Inc. (“ABGNCS”). With locations in Albert Lea and Eden Prairie, Minn., ABGNCS provides recordkeeping and administration for 900 retirement plans, 75,000 participants, and $6 billion in plan assets. ABGNCS also brings new employee recordkeeping and benefit services to Alerus including payroll, health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, health reimbursement arrangements, and COBRA services. Those services will complement the range of retirement planning and recordkeeping services currently offered by Alerus.

Alliance Benefit Group North Central States, Inc. (ABGNCS) has been recognized as one of the Best Places To Work in Southeast Minnesota along with four other local companies. The Best Places to Work awards program is a commissioned study by Workforce Development Inc. The purpose of the program is to recognize some of the best employers in the local area and to provide vital information to companies about the practices they use to attract and retain employees. This is the fourth consecutive year of recognition for ABGNCS.

Alliance Benefit Group Among Best Places to Work 

Alliance Benefit Group was recognized as one of the ‘Best Places to Work’ in Southeast Minnesota for the third year in a row, at a banquet Thursday evening.  The Southeast Minnesota Workforce Investment Board recognized 15 businesses for their excellence in the work place.  Employers were awarded in three categories: small-size, medium-size, and large-size recipients.Workforce Development's Best Places to Work program recognizes some of the best employers in the area and provides vital information to companies about the practices the employers use to attract and retain employees.

The free app, “Benefits Simplified by ABGNCS” is now available for download on iTunes and Google Play. The new employee benefits app offers one centralized location for participants to access their retirement and health-related savings accounts. The app also offers access to the latest benefits news, a robust video library, savings calculators, and other resources to support participants in their journey to successful outcomes.

IRS Releases 2014 Pension Limits

Today, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced 2014 cost of living adjustments affecting dollar limitations for pension plans and other retirement-related items.  Although 401(k) and IRA limits will remain unchanged for next year, other pension plan limitations will increase in 2014.

Alliance Benefit Group has ranked in the Top 10 DC Recordkeepers by PlanSponsor's 2012 Annual Survey.  Along with top 401(k) recordkeepers, the top 403(b), 457, ESOP and Non-Qualified providers are listed along with those that have the most assets and participants per plan. 

Of the 12 categories, Alliance Benefit Group ranked #1 for "Net % Increase in Plans (2012 vs. 2011)" and #9 for "Total Profit-Sharing Assets."

For the second consecutive year, Alliance Benefit Group has been honored as one of the “Best Places to Work” by Workforce Development, Inc. in the Mid-Size Employer category.  15 Southeast Minnesota companies - small to large - were recognized at an event held on April 25, 2013 in Rochester, MN.  There were only four other companies honored with Alliance Benefit Group in the Mid-Size Employer category.

DOL Issues Relief for Victims of Hurricane Sandy

In wake of Hurricane Sandy, the Department of Labor has issued compliance guidance for employee benefit plans which offers relief for victims. This announcement details information about relief of certain verification procedures that may be required for loans and hardships. It also addresses late deposits, blackout notices, and information pertaining to filing benefit claims and COBRA elections.

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal has recognized Alliance Benefit Group North Central States, Inc. as a leader in the benefits industry, ranking in the top 5 largest third party benefit administrators in Minnesota. Our own Steven W. Pulley, President, was also acknowledged as a "top Minnesota executive," leading a team of over 100 employees to provide recordkeeping and administrative services to more than 2,000 plans.

ABG's Roger Jorgensen awarded the "John J. Symanitz Award" by MAHU.

On Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the annual Minnesota Association of Health Underwriters (MAHU) 2012 Sales Convention Gala, Alliance Benefit Group's Roger Jorgensen was the recipient of the distinguished "John J. Symanitz Award." This award was established in recognition and appreciation of John J. Symanitz, an outstanding lifetime member and founder of the MAHU. This award is presented annually at the MAHU Sales Congress and selected by a nominating committee made up of MAHU members.

ABG Submits Comment Letter to DOL Requesting Clarification of "Designated Investment Alternative"

Alliance Benefit Group has submitted a comment letter to the Department of Labor (DOL) asking for clarification of the term "Designated Investment Alternative." The new 404(a)(5) Disclosure Regulations defines information that must be provided to participants for each Designated Investment Alternative (DIA) in a retirement plan. Each asset allocation model, or portfolio, designed by an advisor for the plan, as a Designated Investment Alternative (DIA) is subject to the requirements.
